We love the look of Ash! It is a light colored, smooth-grained hardwood that grows in North America. We have chosen to work with a locally owned family mill just minutes from our farm and who happen to be great friends of ours.

They use no chemicals in their process. The entire kiln drying process is done with heat to preserve the wood.

They introduced us to another local artisan who we commissioned to make these special designs for our Ash Soap Dishes. She does amazing custom woodwork and we are grateful to use her skills.

Although there are many places we could have purchased these from, most come from oversees and still somehow are less expensive but caring for our earth is more important than saving a few dollars on each item.  We purchase local so the carbon footprint is reduced because there’s minimal transportation.

All hardwoods tend to change hues a bit as the years go by. Generally speaking, lighter varieties will become richer, while darker woods will lighten some. This is a natural process caused by exposure to UV light and oxygen.

White ash wood, the one most commonly used in furniture as it is one of the most durable options available for fine furniture.

When using we recommend changing them out every few weeks. This will allow one of your dishes to dry while you use the other. In the long run this will greatly extend the life of your soap dish. Buy a two pack and save a little money.

PLEASE NOTE: We have these coated with a natural mineral oil. They will last a very long time and are very durable even when exposed to water. At times natural tannins in the wood may cause some brown water to run off the soap dish. This is completely natural and will stop with time. These tannins at times can stain very sensitive surfaces. For this reason we do not recommend using these dishes on marble or light colored natural stone. The dishes are covered in natural Linseed oil to last longer.
